Sid Tobias is a decorated Canadian Armed Forces veteran, experienced public servant, and municipal leader with deep roots in Esquimalt–Colwood.
Born in Esquimalt, Sid served nearly 25 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, much of that time based at CFB Esquimalt. His distinguished military career included receiving the Meritorious Service Medal for his role in integrating Canadian, NORAD, and U.S. forces in support of the 2010 Olympic Games. He also served as chair of a NATO working group.
Following his military service, Sid spent more than a decade working in the B.C. Public Service, bringing his experience in leadership, collaboration, and public administration to the provincial level.
In 2022, Sid was elected Mayor of View Royal and became a director with the Capital Regional District. As mayor, he has focused on practical, community-based solutions, including advancing View Royal’s first comprehensive Official Community Plan update since 2011, supporting efforts to establish a primary-care clinic for residents without a family doctor, and helping re-establish an ambulance station in the community.
At the regional level, Sid has worked to strengthen cooperation among municipalities, First Nations, regional governments, and other partners, including efforts surrounding the future of the E&N rail corridor.
Sid believes British Columbia needs stable, practical and collaborative government focused on delivering results rather than increasing political division. His priorities include housing, health care, transportation, infrastructure and affordability, with an emphasis on governments working together to address the challenges facing communities.
With decades of military, provincial and municipal public service, Sid brings extensive leadership experience and a lifelong commitment to serving the communities of Esquimalt–Colwood.
